MY VIEW OF MY LIFE I, Elizabeth Grange Okulski Coachman was born in Evanston, Illinois, in
1949, and raised in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines. With an English teacher mother and a father in public relations and
advertising, my world whirled with puns, double entendres, doggerel and all manner of verbal and visual humor. I attended
Philadelphia's Moore College of Art as an Advertising Design major but became sidetracked by a concurrent love of biology.
I pursued my pre-med studies at Rutgers University in Camden, NJ, where the tuition at the time for all the courses I could
take at once was $200 per semester--what a bargain! While I obtained an MD at Temple University Medical School and practiced
pathology under the name Dr. Elizabeth Okulski in Florida for 20 years I still managed to draw and paint. Even while attending
medical school I continued to generate humorous drawings several of which were included in the class of 1977's yearbook, "The
Skull." One of these drawings was a parody of a scene in Jonathan Swift's, Gulliver's Travels, in which Lilliputian medical students prod, probe and pry their way into a diagnosis
of a gargantuan patient. Note that my art works done prior to 1998 are signed as E. Okulski. In my last 10 years of pathology
practice I was Laboratory Medical Director at the hospital in Tarpon Springs, Florida.I continued studying art through drawing,
painting, and printmaking courses in Dunedin, Florida, and St. John's, Newfoundland. After retiring in 1998 I married Mike
Coachman and traveled the U.S. and Canada by RV before moving to a small cattle ranch in Brooksville, Florida, where I have
printmaking and painting studios. I designed the 2004 Brooksville Christmas ornaments that hung on the Florida State Christmas
tree that year. One was a traditional scene and the other a somewhat non-traditional rendition of Willie's Hotdog Stand complete
with a holiday wreath of hotdogs and hamburgers. I've won several awards for drawings and print work including a, "Best of
Show" in 2007 at the Dunedin, Florida, Fine Art Center. Mike and I have spent recent summers near St. John's, Newfoundland,
where I'm a member of the St. Michael's Printshop. In 2008 I designed the 5 of Diamonds for their "art decko" deck of cards.
My work is held in private collections throughout the U.S., Canada, and as far as Florence, Italy.
