Old St. Lawrence Church, Portugal Cove, Newfoundland

In 1999, construction of a new St. Lawrence Anglican Church commenced in Portugal Cove, Newfoundland. No one really wanted to see the old church pictured above disappear, but deterioration of it necessitated rebuilding. A parishioner asked if the artist would paint the old church's portrait, and she gladly agreed to do it. As she stood on a huge boulder and painted, a 10-year old boy named Steven kept her company and brought her wild blueberries for snacks over the several days she worked outside. Upon completion of the new church, the artist donated the framed painting to the Parish. She was humbled when the minister set aside part of a Sunday service to say a special blessing over her artwork that still hangs in the new St. Lawrence Church's vestibule.
